I have an ability to interpret a concept in to a practical solution
using electronics and software. My spatial reasoning is excellent.

Ramsden School for Boys, Orpington, Kent. in
1974 with seven GCSE's: Maths, English, Integrated Science,
Electrical Engineering,
Technical
Drawing, 3D Design (Art), Metal Work.
EMPLOYMENT:
1977 to 12/2007:- Bellingham &
Stanley Ltd.

Manufacture scientific instruments. This company has employed me as an
Electronics Design Engineer in their Research & Development
Department.
1975-1977:-
Jermyn Industries,
Sevenoaks,
Kent.
This was my first job after leaving school. Gained a good grounding in
reading data sheets; the testing and selecting of Thyristors, Triacs,
FETs and transistors.
QUALIFICATIONS: BTEC HND in
Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with main
point in Electronics also have some experience in mechanical and
optical design.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1974 to 1976:
West Kent College, Tonbridge,
Kent, City & Guilds. Electronics.
1976 to 1983:
Day release: Bromley College of Technology, Kent. Radio, Television and
Electronics Technician Certificate.
Electrical Technician Certificate.
BUSINESS & TECHNICIAN EDUCATION
COUNCIL:
July 1984:
BTEC HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
July 1985:
Higher National Certificate in
Electronics.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Diploma in Engineering Management
EXPERIENCE:
Analogue Circuit design: - Transistor, OP-AMPs, D to A, A to D
conversion, complex resistor networks, stepper motor drive, switch mode
power supplies.
Opto Electronics: - Solid state cameras
(linear images sensors such as NMOS & CCDs), photo cells, LCDs,
LEDs.
Digital Circuit design:- Random logic such as 4000 and 7400
series, LSI, programmable logic (CPLD) using Languages such as Able and
Cupl.
Printed Circuit Board Layout:- CAD with OrCAD 16 (Cadence); I can do
manual layout with tape and scalpel.
Microprocessor software / hardware design:-
Motorola/Hitachi MC6801, MC9HCS12, and HD6301: I have
particular knowledge of these.
Intel 8748,
Rockwell 6502 (now obsolete). Some knowledge of PowerPC.
Including
designing in :- DMA, battery backed Ram/clock, EEPROMs
I have used
various Cross Assemblers, Basic, C (in which I work mainly), and
Pascal. Checking tool PC-lint. These applications run on Windows.
I gained
experience seeing a number of small and some larger projects from
conception & specification, through planning, design, development,
final
testing, and
on-going revision of the instruments which the company now
manufactures. I used Prato analysis and half split methods to manage my
work.
I now work
with a Project manager, Physicist, High Level Software Engineer and
Technician. I also work with a mechanical draftsman, and other
people. The CAD
tools I use are OrCAD for circuit design and printed circuit design, C
with pc-lint, Able CPLD programming language. I
occasionally still
use a soldering iron.
I am
consensual, considerate, listening and can express my confidence in
work. I encourage people to ask questions, which I will answer
promptly,
or explain any work
that I will have to do in researching the answer. In short, I
think it an important merit that I consider the consequences of what I
do beyond the work
just in front of me. I have a particularly good feeling for circuit
design, with good electromagnetic compatibility.
INTERESTS:
My interest in science and electronics
started quite young. In my teens I made Power Supplies, Oscillators,
Amplifiers, and an Oscilloscope. While still a teenager I learnt to
take a more cautious approach after receiving a shock when
experimenting with live chassis TVs etc. I also enjoy Walking,
Photography, Community work, Travel, the Environment, and most types of
music.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
I am involved in community work as a
school governor and have been a parish councillor for 12 years eight of
those as chair of Southborough Town councils’ Planning and
Transportation committee, which I enjoyed considerably. I prepared
myself for these civic duties by watching council meetings and
commenting in letters to local newspapers on what I observed. I also
developed my communication skills joining a public a speaking club
prior to being elected. My motive is to help empower ordinary people.
