Apparently the A21 is the most studied road, but this time although the Access to Hastings study has been very broad it disappointing that the re-opening the rail line to Brighton and rail freight sidings are not included. This will suit Rail Track who have been much criticised for resisting investment. It turns out that Castle Hill is not the black spot. Your article identifies the crash black spots at Kippings Cross, and Flimwell. Environmental damage will still result. Though the on-line scheme is theoretically safer than the off-line, could widening the A21 at Castle Hill still lead to increased serious injuries? I understand that the reason that death rate for men rises sharply at about aged 17 (see graph enclosed) is because of the risks they take. Clearly when many drivers see a wide road ahead they overlook the speed limit. What will local road advocates want next - a bypass of the A26 such as across Southborough Common, Speldhurst, to Langton Green?
